Amanda H. Wilkerson, PhD, CHES®
Dr. Amanda Wilkerson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Science at the University of Alabama (UA). Dr. Wilkerson's research focuses on the utilization of health behavior theoretical models to provide a deeper understanding of the factors influencing health behavior change in order to conceptualize preventative behavioral approaches to guide effective health promotion interventions. In her current work, she incorporates an ecological framework to investigate influences on sedentary behavior among adults in the workplace setting. She is interested in exploring factors that contribute to sedentary lifestyles and developing strategies to reduce sedentary behavior and increase physical activity among adults. She has also conducted research exploring other areas in health promotion including skin cancer prevention, substance use, and college student health. Dr. Wilkerson earned her Ph.D. in Health Education and Promotion from UA and her M.S. in Health Promotion and B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Mississippi. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) and is a member of the American Public Health Association and American Academy of Health Behavior. Currently, she serves as an Associate Editor in Chief for the American Journal of Health Promotion.
Prior to joining UA in August 2019, Dr. Wilkerson served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at the University of Oklahoma.
